Nitrofurantoin, an organic compound with the formula C8H6N4O5, is a yellow crystalline powder, odorless, bitter, gradually dark in light, soluble in dimethylformamide, slightly soluble in acetone, very slightly soluble in ethanol, and almost insoluble in water or chloroform. It is mainly used for urinary system infection caused by sensitive bacteria.
